Main Advantages of  using Anti Flicker boards

• Steady lighting – LEDs remain illuminated instead of visibly flickering as the train moves.
• Better performance over dirty track – They help compensate for brief interruptions caused by dirt or oxidation on the rails and wheels.
• Improved running over points – Lighting is less likely to flash or go out when a vehicle crosses turnouts and other trackwork.
• More realistic appearance – Constant carriage or locomotive lighting looks much more natural, especially at slow speeds.
• Fewer electrical pickup problems – Short losses of contact are effectively smoothed out.
• Better low-speed operation – At very low speeds, where electrical pickup can be intermittent, the lights can remain steady.
• Useful for sound-equipped locomotives – Depending on the design, an anti-flicker/supercapacitor circuit can also help prevent brief power interruptions from affecting onboard electronics.
• Reduced maintenance – You may spend less time cleaning track and wheels purely to eliminate lighting flicker.

  Things to consider

  Anti-flicker devices does not  fix poor electrical pickup; they mainly bridge short interruptions. They also add cost, space requirements, and some wiring complexity. The capacitor must be appropriately rated for the decoder or lighting circuit, particularly on DCC layouts.

  For a model railway, they’re especially worthwhile for passenger coaches with interior lighting, where even small interruptions are very noticeable.
