Dual Random Flickering Fire Module
A range of Completely random flickering fire effects from each of two grain of wheat bulbs (far more realistic than any LED). Changes brightness and speed of flicker to create a realistic fire effect for bonfires, buildings etc. Also recommended for Dolls House fireplaces and candles. Requires a Regulated 12V DC power supply. See Power Supplies section if required. The Unit measures 45mm x 32mm. Supplied Complete with Grain of wheat Bulbs. The unit is fully Assembled requiring only connection of the power supply and the Grain of wheat bulbs. Complete easy to follow instructions included.

Flickering fire effects can add a lot of realism and atmosphere to a model railway. Some common uses include:
- 🔥 Steam locomotive fireboxes – flickering lamps can simulate the glow of the firebox, especially when the fireman’s side doors are visible.
- 🏭 Industrial buildings – Furnaces, foundries, steelworks and brickworks this unit provides a convincing internal orange glow.
- 🏠 Houses and cottages – A warm, irregular flicker behind windows can suggest an open fireplace or wood-burning stove.
- 🚂 Steam-era industrial scenes – Engine sheds, workshops and railway maintenance buildings can benefit from subtle fire or furnace effects.
- ⛺ Lineside campfires – Useful for adding life to camping, military or rural scenes.
- 🚧 Trackside fires – A small controlled flicker can represent a maintenance fire or temporary worksite.
- 🏗️ Construction and demolition scenes – Fire effects can be used to portray burning operations.
- 💥 Accident or emergency scenes – A stronger red/orange flicker can simulate a burning vehicle or building, although it is best used sparingly.
- 🌆 Night-time layouts – Flickering firelight provides a moving light source and makes otherwise static buildings and scenes much more atmospheric
Why use a flicker circuit?
A simple constantly illuminated orange LED can look artificial. A flicker circuit varies the brightness and/or color irregularly, making the light appear more like a real flame. Combining incandescent can make the effect even more convincing.
For model railways, the best effects are generally subtle and irregular—a gentle glow rather than rapid, uniform flashing. go to our learning Gateway for help and advice
